Although it is not mandatory, Kelowna Minor Baseball Association encourages coaches at all levels to complete a minimum of NCCP Initiation Coach Trained Status Coaching Association of Canada. KMBA will pay for all Coaches who participate in coaching level courses. In some instances, a Coach may have to prepay their fee and then be reimbursed by KMBA. Please perform the online initiation and register and then register for upcoming clinics at nccp.baseball.ca/

NCCP CERTIFICATION

For the Summer All-Star program, Coaches must have the following requirements:
  • Mosquito A, AA, AAA - One coach to have Regional Coach Trained Status. All other coaches must be Initiation Coach Trained status.
  • Pee Wee A - One coach to have Regional Coach Trained Status. All other coaches must be Initiation Coach Trained status.
  • Pee Wee AA, AAA - All coaches to have Regional Coach Trained Status
  • Bantam A - One coach to have Regional Coach Trained Status. All other coaches must be Initiation Coach Trained status.
  • Bantam AA - All coaches to have Regional Coach Trained Status.
  • Bantam AAA – All coaches to have Regional Coach Trained Status.
  • Midget AA – One coach to have Regional Coach Trained Status. All other coaches must be Initiation Coach Trained status.
  • Midget AAA – All coaches to have Regional Coach Trained Status.

KMBA CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK

All coaches for Kelowna Minor Baseball Association are required to undergo a Criminal Background Check once every 2 years as per BC Minor Baseball's Risk Management Program. The process is now free for all those working in a Volunteer capacity in BC, and is quick and easy to complete. You must complete all the following steps:

1. Print the, RCMP Criminal Record Check (1st Form) and the RCMP Criminal Record Check (2nd Form) . Under Certain Circumstances finger printing may be required. If this happens please provide the RCMP with the KMBA criminal record request form in order to have the finger print fee waived. KMBA CRC Request Form (only done if required).

2. Take the completed forms, with two pieces of identification (one must be a picture ID and one must contain your current address)

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. All coaches for Kelowna Minor Baseball Association are required to undergo a criminal records check (as outlined above).

2. It is the Coaches responsibility to display and promote good sportsmanship and fair play of their team and parents at all times. Behave the way you want players and spectators too. Be positive and remember that all participants are special and important.

3. Emphasize that participating and doing one’s best are more important than who wins or loses. Remind players that everyone is a valued member of the team. Keep it fun while developing their skills and constructive attitudes towards competition.

4. Respect the Umpires and accept their decisions, do not argue with them. Actively encourage players to respect umpires and other competitors that without them there would be no game.

5. Encourage communication between coaches, players and parents.

6. Learn and respect the rules of the games.

7. Home Teams are responsible to prepare the fields for play. After the game they are to rake the infield, home plate and pitching mound areas. It is also the home team’s responsibility to return all equipment and lock them up. Coaches should find a team parent to coordinate team responsibilities.

8. Although it is not mandatory, Kelowna Minor Baseball Association encourages coaches at all levels to complete a minimum of NCCP Initiation Coach Trained Status Coaching Association of Canada. 9. Coaches are responsible for picking up team equipment bags and returning them (Cleaned out) at the end of the season to the Equipment Coordinator.

11. Coaches are required to gather all KMBA jerseys from players and return them with (Cleaned) at the end of the season to the Uniform Coordinator.

10. A Coach must be prepared to spend time practicing with their team in order that the players have a chance to develop skills and team spirit. During pre-season, several practices a week are desirable. As the season progresses practice sessions may vary in duration and frequency. Depending on the needs of the team, a practice will generally have some or all of the following elements in it:

  • Discussion
  • Warm-up
  • Skill demonstration
  • Skill practice
  • Scrimmage or practice

 

Spring Ball Evaluation

Each division is required to hold 3 evaluations prior to team selections. Player must attend 2 evaluations minimum in order to be considered for double (AA) teams. Players will receive points on batting(15), pitching(15), infield(10) and outfield(10) with total of 50 possible points per evaluation. Division directors will add up the points from the top two evaluation and players will be ranked from strongest to weakest.

Spring Ball Team Selection

KMBA will hold a player draft type team selection process in order to have equally balanced spring teams. Where there is a tiered division, double (AA) coaches will be able to select from the top 15 player per (AA) team first. After double (AA) teams have been selected single (A) coaches will be able to select their teams. Where a coach has a son or daughter that child will be assigned to their team at the appropriate time.

Summer Ball Evaluations

Summer Ball Team Selection

Coaches will be able to select from the top 15 players. If all roster spots cannot be filled with KMBA players the coach may go outside the association to fill the remaining spots. (Reviewed only for AAA Teams)

Summer Ball Coach Selection Process

Head coaches must submit their application to the VP of Baseball by April 30 (link). Assistant coaches must submit their application to the VP of Baseball by May 15. The President, VP of Baseball, and respective Division Director will be the three-person committee in charge of coach selection. The Committee will select the head coach by May 15. The Committee will review and approve the head coaches selected assistant coach by May 30.
