The AAA mosquito tier II team had an absolutely successful summer ball season. Prior to the season starting the kids filled out a questionnaire. Amongst other things they were asked why they wanted to play summer ball. The responses fell basically into two categories: first to have fun and second to learn baseball. The summer program was built with these two goals in mind. The happy faces in the team picture that was submitted for the Provincial Roster is testimony to the fact that these kids had FUN! (So did the parents, family members and coaches!)
2006 TOURNAMENT RESULTS:
The team competed in and won the Kamloops Tournament! 7-0 in the semi-finals and 11-0 in the final.
The team competed in the Valley of Champions tournament held at high noon Park in Rutland and placed second. Terrific considering that a couple of the teams the boys played against were from one tier higher. The kids were fortunate to play in such a well run tournament that provided top shelf competition.
In the Zone play downs played at Edith Gay Park (thanks again!!) in Rutland, the Cubs won 4 straight games and their berth to the Provincials.
The provincials were hosted by North Delta. (Fantastic job!) In the skills competition the team of Dongryul L., Hunter N., Stratton M. and Brandon M won the around the horn competition. An honorable mention (2nd) was given to Justin S., Brendan B., Jordan A., and Jordan H. in the base race competition.
BC MINOR PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT RESULTS:
Kelowna 10 Ridge Meadows 1
Kelowna 13 Victoria 3
Kelowna 3 Chilliwack 1
Kelowna 2 North Delta 1
Semi final Kelowna 10 Ladner 5
Final Kelowna 11 Chilliwack 4
The Cubs won 6 straight games allowing only 15 defensive runs in their successful effort to win the provincial title.
The Kelowna cub’s players showed excellent sportsmanship on and off the field. They respected the umpires and each other. They worked very hard and were rewarded. It was an absolute pleasure to be the coaching staff of the AAA Mosquito Tier II team.
We would like to thank the parents for their unbelievable support on and off the field. This is a summer that will not soon be forgotten!
Go Cubs! And by the way “SHAKE YOUR BOOTY!”
Jackie Yates, Gary Yates, Fred Bourcier and Graham Johnson.
